Artist's Comments

So out of nowhere, I started listening to I Monster and doodling one of my extremely under-developed and oft-ignored naga characters, Tock. It somehow mutated from a frustrated head sketch into this, wtf I have no idea. The perspective and stuff is a little wonky, I KNOW. But I'm pretty content with the end result anyway. I'll upload some detail shots of the face to my scraps later, as a bit got lost in the compression. Anyway, character musing ahead!

Previously I had no idea what was up with him, and as it turns out? Yeah, he's crazy. Not Opius-crazy or violent-crazy or fun-crazy, just a sort of vaguely unsettling mania that shows itself in odd ways. He's obsessive over the symbology and associations of time and clockwork, as you can see. Why? He's a hypnotist. So cliche, tsk tsk.

Many of my nagas have a smallscale "power" of some sort. Aolani is a telepath, Kaphiri has some precognition, Bastille is an illusionist, etc. Weeell see that eyepatch over Tock's right eye? The organ is still there, but it's an opaque, bioluminescent gold. It induces an instant suspension of consciousness in anyone that makes eye contact with it, save perhaps for extremely strong-minded individuals who may need more persuasion. It can incite anything from mild euphoria to manic episodes during this state of hypnosis, depending on the Tock's and the subject's moods, and depending again on the subject's own strength of mind and consciousness. The effect is usually more subdued, however, and more of an annoyance than anything, hence the eyepatch. It's kind of hard to hold a conversation with someone who keeps completely zoning out on you every three seconds ;)

That aside, he's a little neurotic. His morals are questionable. His services as a hypnotist can assist in information retrieval--amongst other things--from reluctant victims, and can be bought off very easily for the right price. I don't know where the hell he lives, if anywhere, or what his past really is, but I'll get there. He's not very nice, but one can get along with him after a bit.

He also enjoys swing music and collecting ephemera! 8) The end. For now.

Wonderful work. The title reminded me of the Basillic from the 2nd Harry Potter.

And I believe this may call for a proper introduction, and well
Don't you see, I'm the narrator, and this is just the prologue?

Oooh...Gah. I love the whole character idea....I'm so jealous of your awesome powers of character design. And the green/gold colors, very beautiful together. That and all the random watches and such on him...So nice.
Ooh, and you gotta love brow piercings :XD:
Awesome character.

I like the way you're doing scales now. It looks like a very good way to simulate detail without breaking your hand over it ;3 And I don't see many perspective issues myself, so I agree with you that it came out very well!
